Hello, everyone! It’s been an intense period of development for “Afro-Future Rising,” filled with both breakthroughs and challenges. I’m excited to share that I’ve completed a significant phase of code integration, focusing on core gameplay mechanics that are essential for a rich and immersive experience.

Core Gameplay Mechanics Integration

  • Health and Regeneration: The character’s health system is now fully integrated, complete with mechanisms for health regeneration over time. This ensures that players can recover from battles and strategize their gameplay around health management.
  • Stamina/Energy System: Similarly, the stamina or energy system for abilities has been implemented, allowing for the use and regeneration of energy. This is crucial for ability management, adding depth to combat and exploration.
  • Experience and Leveling: Another major addition is the XP and level increase system. Characters now gain experience from various actions, leading to level-ups that unlock new abilities and enhance stats.

Facing Challenges with the HUD

While I’ve made substantial progress with the gameplay mechanics, I’ve hit a snag when it comes to integrating these elements into the HUD (Heads-Up Display).

  • Current Setup: My Unreal project includes separate Blueprints (BP) for the HUD, Minimap, and the TopDownCharacter. The challenge lies in displaying the newly integrated health, stamina/energy, and XP/level information within the HUD effectively.
  • Seeking Solutions: If anyone in the community has experience or insights on bridging these elements—especially in efficiently updating the HUD BP with data from the TopDownCharacter BP—I would greatly appreciate your advice and help.

Next Steps: Creeps and Combat Interactions

  • Creeps Waves: With the core player mechanics in place, my next focus will be on adding creeps waves. This will introduce a new layer of strategy and challenge, requiring players to manage their health and stamina wisely.
  • Damage and Health Interactions: I’ll also be working on the interactions between player damage and health with the creeps. Balancing these interactions is key to ensuring an engaging and fair combat system.

A Call for Help

I find myself at a crossroads, proud of the progress made but also mindful of the challenges ahead. The issue with HUD integration is a puzzle I’m eager to solve, and I believe that with the collective wisdom of the game development community, a solution is within reach.
